All organizations want their IT systems to perform optimally. This is easier said than done, however. If it were easy, every organization would have implemented a performance optimization, performance management or other solution to get the most out of their systems.
What is keeping organizations from optimizing performance? There are almost as many reasons as there are companies. In our interactions with customers, though, we see three reasons pop up again and again. Below, we’ll look at the three reasons and some ways performance management can help you get over those hurdles.
1. Ease of use: No solution, no matter how many features it has, is effective if people won’t use it. Until recently, one of the biggest challenges of implementing and using performance monitoring and optimization was that it was not very user-friendly. Recently, the use of analytics has made achieving the benefits of performance optimization much easier for IT. It now requires much less interpreting of data, allowing you to spend more time on what’s important, avoiding problems before they start, and fixing those that are discovered.
2. True real-time monitoring: Let’s face it; a lot of solutions that claim “real-time monitoring” actually ping critical infrastructure only every couple of minutes, or deliver workload averages rather than actuals. The key to effective performance monitoring and optimization is seeing every transaction for true real-time monitoring that is system-wide and can scale with you as you grow.
3. Dealing with the public cloud: When you are deploying an on-premise solution, you pay close attention to performance guarantees or SLAs, yet, when companies move business-critical apps to the cloud, they have no performance guarantees. Solutions like VirtualWisdom are great for on-premise private cloud, real-time monitoring as discussed above, but even VirtualWisdom doesn’t have the same capabilities when it comes to the public cloud. This gap will be filled over time.
Digital transformation and infrastructure shifts are pushing complexity beyond the point of human comprehension. End-to-end performance monitoring and analytics-driven insights eliminate guesswork so you can solve all your performance issues – not just some.
